The Swiss correspondence university and polytechnic require a new joint presence in the Rhonesand quarter in Brig. In an open competition, a new building was sought that would provide a high degree of flexibility for different work situations and an appropriate visual identity for both distance learning universities.
The appearance of the building is determined by the striking vertical planes of concrete on the facades and the fine veil of glazing, both of which emphasise the inner structure.
Various zones are demarcated by freestanding walls standing perpendicular to the glazed facades. The lifts, toilets and storage spaces form a freestanding structure alongside the stairs.
Two floors are connected by a large circular void to form a multi-level zone. Three spacious work, research and conference clusters are created, each extending across two floors. The central void will become a communicative centre that promotes interactive cooperation and collaboration.
